I started the business as a restorer in 1991 and worked for 9 years as the general manager responsible for all departments of a major rug company based in Turkey with a store in the UK. I have built extensive knowledge in the subject of antique rugs, carpets. textiles and kilims.
I established "Ibrahim Tekin, Antique and Modern Rugs" in Konya-Turkey in 2002, initially with a team of about 15 local restorers. We were focused on achieving invisible repairs of antique textiles and rugs. We aimed at building up a reputation in the trade with our museum quality restoration work on complex projects that many other repair businesses tend to avoid. In only a couple of years, we were recognized in the international carpet trade with our distinctive repair work that was the result of meticulous attention paid down to the smallest detail.
In 2003 we started custom-producing handmade rugs and carpets as well. There were about twenty local weavers working for us. With an intimate knowledge of natural dyes and an understanding of all sorts of antique textiles, our productions proved clearly different than those of mass-producers of handmade rugs in various parts of the world.
We were able to understand and meet our clients` requirements that resulted in transforming their creative ideas and imaginations into some of the best contemporary handmade rugs available.
Our limited production of naturally dyed handmade rugs with classic or contemporary designs were quickly spotted by some of the leading players in the industry. Top dealers, architects and interior designers in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and London started testing our ability to make carpets that require painstaking attention to detail, excellent skills of dyeing with natural organic materials, matching colors and expert hand-knotting.
Today, with our 20-year background of experience and knowledge in antique and modern rugs, an established business with over seventy carefully-selected restorers and weavers and a worldwide network, we are able to advise individuals, dealers or collectors on all aspects of the business.
