This superb Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug is a robust, highly decorative, and geometrically rich tribal textile from the Caucasus Mountains, dating to the late 19th century. Measuring 150 x 232 cm (approx. 4'11" x 7'7"), its versatile room size and vibrant, layered design make it an outstanding focal point for any collector or sophisticated interior.
The composition is framed by an exceptional system of multiple, concentric geometric borders. The central field, or medallion panel, alternates between deep indigo blue and lighter blue tones, showcasing a vertical arrangement of stylized 'S' motifs (or latch-hook guls). This complex interior design is surrounded by frames featuring repeating geometric devices, triangles, and stylized floral crosses in a wide palette of madder red, ivory, and green.
The bold geometry, dense knotting, and reliance on saturated color blocking are hallmarks of traditional Kazak weaving. Woven from high-quality, durable hand-spun wool and colored exclusively with rich, enduring natural dyes, this piece is presented in Excellent Original Condition, offering both artistic depth and remarkable preservation for its age.
