This lively vintage Turkish kilim rug was handwoven by Kurdish villagers in Central Anatolia during the third quarter of the 20th century. Created for everyday use, it reflects the rich weaving traditions, cultural heritage, and folk art of rural Turkey.
Traditionally, handwoven kilims like this were used as floor coverings, wall hangings, bedding covers, tent dividers, curtains, and decorative textiles in village homes and nomadic tents. They were also an important part of a young woman’s trousseau, showcasing her weaving skills and artistic creativity.
Featuring expressive colors, traditional patterns, and the distinctive character of authentic Anatolian craftsmanship, this vintage flatweave rug brings warmth, texture, and history to any interior. It is a beautiful choice for living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, entryways, home offices, or as a unique wall hanging.
As these traditional Kurdish kilims have not been produced for several decades, well-preserved examples are becoming increasingly rare. We were fortunate to discover this exceptional piece in very good vintage condition, making it a distinctive and collectible example of Turkish textile and folk art.
