An outstanding antique Caucasian rug from the town of "Quba" (or Kuba) in North East Azerbaijan that is renowned for its finely woven rugs with intricate designs that have been highly popular in the west by the end of 19th century. This particular one has a well drawn interlocking lattice design with "earring" motifs on a wonderful abrajed indigo blue ground with various shades of blue framed by an eye catching "kufic" red main border and colorful floral minor borders with rich emerald green, saffron yellow, madder red and indigo blue colors. The rug is made of soft and lustrous lambswool and it is in excellent state of preservation with even medium pile. It could be a charming addition to a tasteful collection of antique rugs and textile art or a central point in an elegantly decorated room.
