This antique early 20th century hand knotted Turkish area rug was made by nomads. It features two linked medallions in faded grayish blue adorned with abstract floral motifs at the centre of a plain red field. The corner pieces on all four corner of as well as midway though the field are similarly decorated with abstract florals and angular leaf motifs and create a border for the field in a shape that echoes the linked medallions. The main border has an ivory background and is filled with realistic looking delicate flower motifs in faded blue, red and beige. There is both a tribal and an urban vibe to this rug with its rectilinear, abstract renditions of classical structural and design elements.
This antique area rug is hand knotted with soft sheep's wool, has medium wool pile on cotton foundation, is sturdy and in good condition. It could be a great piece to be used in classical as well as modern interiors.
Lustrous wool pile on cotton foundation and well preserved original condition.
